BIO
Chris Gober is a trusted legal adviser and problem solver for the toughest political, public policy, and regulatory challenges. His national practice is focused on constitutional and political litigation, government investigations and enforcement actions, and providing strategic advice and guidance to elected officials, companies, industry trade associations, and high-net worth individuals.
Recognizing his breadth of knowledge, ability to “get to yes,” and the unique skills he acquired as a former campaign tactician, high-profile clients seek out Chris to navigate them through legal and strategic minefields when the stakes are high. Despite his proven record of public victories, Chris has secured most of his wins by solving his clients’ legal and strategic problems in the background and ensuring they never become part of the public record.
Chris currently represents dozens of U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, governors, and state attorneys general across the country. He has won cases in the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. Courts of Appeal, and he has represented elected officials and high-profile individuals in constitutional litigation, government investigations, and enforcement actions in a variety of venues.
For example, Chris successfully defended a U.S. Senator in a multiyear investigatory inquiry by the U.S. Department of Justice. He has cleared multiple U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives in inquiries that range from allegations of insider trading to conflicts-of-interest violations. He has won dozens of cases before the Federal Election Commission and various state ethics agencies, and he successfully defended conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro in a defamation suit. Following the 2020 census, Chris was hired by 23 U.S. Representatives from Texas and the National Republican Congressional Committee to draw the new congressional map in Texas.
Chris is a graduate of Texas A&M University and Harvard Law School. Prior to founding The Gober Group and Vantage Legal, he worked for a leading international law firm and served as head of that firm’s Political Law section. His practice included white collar defense representing both political and non-political clients. Chris previously served as General Counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Deputy Counsel to the Republican National Committee, and Counsel in the Office of Legal Policy at the U.S. Department of Justice. From 2005-06, he worked on the team that prepared Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito for their confirmation hearings for the U.S. Supreme Court.
